In the cold cold wintersea

A little poem inspired by the Finnish evil water spirit Näkki , a picture and a talk with a Finnish friend.

The ghostly fingers of nightly fog

Sweet lure of the black dark deep

The beast that watches from below

In the cold cold wintersea

A boy, alone, in darkness caught

The sweet scent of stark fear

The Näkki waits to feast tonight

In the cold cold wintersea

The house a monster with empty eyes

Watching but never sees

Peeling paint and rotten wood

In the cold cold wintersea

A quiet song, a melody, whispered on the wind

The boy enthralled, in fog so lost

To the lure of the black dark deep

In the cold cold winter sea

The Näkki grips, long sea weed fingers hold so tight

Little black dots is all theyll see

On the body lost tonigth

In the cold cold wintersea

A gasp, a scream, a voice soon lost

The boy is dragged below

The beast will feast, the Näkki wins

In the cold cold wintersea
