Writers don’t need fancy gym memberships to bulk up legs or arms because we all know that the true power lies in conquering the keyboard.
That’s right, my fellow writers, it’s time to get those fingers in top shape.
The page-flipping stretch
Before diving into your writing session, start with some gentle finger stretches.
- Grab a book—preferably one with 250-500 pages.
- Slowly flip through every single page. Take small breaks to read some words so your fingers don’t tire before the workout truly begins.
- Repeat until you run out of pages to flip.
Bonus level: Flip pages while holding a cup of coffee in your other hand without spilling.
The hyping sprint
Time to work on your speed.
- Open a blank document and type “I will become a famous author “ as many times as you can in 60 seconds.
- Rest for 30 seconds.
- Repeat until you start believing it.
Bonus level: Put a timeline on when you’ll be famous, e.g. “I will be a famous author by 2027” to manifest that shit into the universe.
The wordsmith
Grab a thesaurus and a mug of your favorite beverage.
- Go through the book, running your fingers over the pages as if frantically looking for the perfect word for 30 sec.
- Grab your mug and take a sip.
- Alternate between hands until you’ve decided to go back to the original word you wrote.
Bonus level: Look up words you’ve been using for years, just to be extra sure you haven’t been using them wrong this whole time.
Keyboard cool down
- Open a blank document and write the first line of your current WIP.
- Reread it, looking critically at each word.
- Aggressively delete the whole sentence using the backspace button.
- Rewrite the same sentence and repeat 20 times.
Bonus level: Whisper affirmations like “My plot is flawless” or “This draft WILL make sense tomorrow.” while writing
Bonus Exercise: Doom scrolling endurance
Not ready to jump into writing just yet? Stretch those fingers by scrolling endlessly on Instagram or TikTok for inspiration (or procrastination—I won’t tell). Remember to switch thumbs to avoid overuse injuries!

I love to hear from my readers, so leave a comment and brighten my day <3
