A World of Houses Prequel
“Hope was dangerous, defiance deadly…”
Lucy is on the run. Running from her abusive marriage and a world where women are seen as possessions. Useless. Unworthy. With no real knowledge of the world and her five-year-old daughter to protect, she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make a better life for both of them.
“There was a coldness in those eyes, as if there was no soul behind them…”
When her escape goes wrong, and she ends up as the prisoner of a dangerous man with death in his eyes, Lucy sees no choice but to submit to his demands. Bran is scary, dangerous, and menacing, and he unsettles her in a way no man has ever done. But there’s something hiding beneath the gruffness. Something gentle, and for the first time in her life, Lucy dares to hope.
“She scratched and clawed and didn’t care about anything other than getting this man away from her…”
But amidst learning to stand on her own two legs and her daughter’s never-ending quest to celebrate Christmas, Lucy has to accept two things. Bran is not who he seems to be, and her past refuses to relinquish its grip on her.
Yes, this book can be read on its own. While the ending does tie into the trilogy, the main story of the characters is wrapped up in this book, and they get their HEA.
No, AHoSaL is not nearly as dark as the trilogy, and while it does deal with both trauma and abuse, it is a much more cozy darkish Romance than the trilogy. I recommend you check the trigger warning if in doubt.
