A World of Houses started as a Christmas Story. I was writing a Christmas Romance about a woman running away from an abusive marriage with her kid. The story was a bit strange because Christmas didn’t actually exist in the world I was creating, but I fell in love with the world, so when I started writing my trilogy, the logical step was to set it in the same world.
In truth, A World of Houses is a dystopian nightmare.
It all started when people were born with powers—magic that gave them certain abilities. Humanity as a whole did what it always did and reacted with fear. People with magic abilities were tested, treated as wrong, and, in some places, locked away.
That was until so many people were born with powers that wars broke out. After world wars had put the world in ruin, killed off most of the human population, and changed the landscape of the world forever, a new world order rose.
Old religions have been forgotten, and the history of the Before times (before magic) has been lost in the struggle to survive.
In the dust of those struggles, Houses rose to take the seats of power. Each House holds a piece of Midnight City and a corresponding piece of the continent. A Lord sits on the throne of each House, and along with his underlords, he rules the people in his territory as he sees fit.
Women are possessions, sold and bought to gain more control and influence. Drugs are used to keep the poor and abused down, and any child showing signs of even the tiniest hint of power is ripped from their families to serve the Houses.
And it is in this world, where electricity is a long-forgotten technology and where magic is used for everyday things, that my books are happening.
A Home Of Shadows and Light, my dark Christmas story, is set on the outskirts of a small town far from Midnight City and the reach of most Houses.
The Trilogy, happening 20 years after the Christmas story, is set in the heart of Midnight City.
The two books are not only tied together through the same world, but Sofie, the FMC of the trilogy, is the daughter of Lucy, who is the FMC in the Christmas story.
I can’t wait to show you all around Midnight City and introduce you to all the new characters when the first book in the trilogy comes out on June 29th.
Happy reading.

oh wow, that one story…became the idea for a trilogy? that is really neat! congrats Tea!
